The first thought that can be stuck in someone’s mind is why some educational institution has even invited a person like Khalil Ur Rehman who is unable to discuss his thoughts with logic and calmness.
Education institutions invite many actors, singers, and comedians for entertaining the students on different events. However, to give a life lesson one should call someone who can inspire the students and motivate them to do better. ( in terms of culture or studies) At least, guide students to follow their passion or give them a piece of advice on how to do better in life.
Everyone knows about Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar as a writer who has written outstanding dialogue of various dramas. However recently his drama Mere Pass Tum Ho is in limelight mainly because of all the negative publicity. The drama has an ordinary story and we have also seen the disloyal woman before too in Zara Yaad Kar and in some other Pakistani Dramas too.
There is a group of audience who did not watch the drama as its promo was so ordinary and boring that it could not compel them to watch a single episode. (Although i really liked Laal Ishq and Zara Yaad Kar and usually recommend these two to other people) . I know everything that is happening in Mere Pass Tum Ho and related to it, as whole social media is obsessed with it. The makers are definitely getting millions from this project so they would do everything to make it a huge deal. (negative or positive it does not matter)
We are not in favour of this drama nor against it as we could not find anything unique to watch. The stories revolve around the fights of households and the issue of marriage that they all have become so ordinary. The actors are doing their job, getting paid and they are different personalities in their real life.
However, I heard Khalil Ur Rehman in different interviews and I could not stand his point of view.
Similar to millions of other people, he also has the right to have his own ideas and thinkings, the problem starts when our public starts visualizing all people as role models. The public thinks these people are giving them some sort of benefit and they are even failing to provide entertainment. How these all sad, boring stories can be a source of entertainment.
Negative publicity also does wonders as it makes a drama or movie more popular than it deserves. It happens in the case of Mere Pass Tum Ho and the same with Khalil Ur Rehman.
Kinnaird College organized a session with Khalil Ur Rehman, however, they called it off due to his remarks and views. Why in the first place they thought he can be a true representative of a culture. The problem is not with the depiction of women in his serial, as there is a disloyal women in our society.
The problem is his views on women that whatever man does it’s his nature and he is used to doing it. On the other side, a woman is born to be a loyal creature, otherwise, she is not lovable and respectable. A man who openly loath women to an extent that he calls a woman a low-class actress (that is in his movie), what we can expect from him.
The problem is not with him or with the drama, the problem is with our public that is used to of this kind of dramas that they are unable to appreciate different content such as Ishq Zahe Naseeb or Alif.
The problem is not with the content that as a writer Khalil Ur Rehman is producing, the problem is when people are creating hype over his views as a person. The problem is when people are taking him as a role model and will definitely justify their bad behaviour to women. He is definitely entertaining specific group views too and these all people are supporting him like a hero.
After all the drama on Aurat Azadi March that was created by a specific group, perhaps some people got the idea that it is not necessary if a person is a good writer, he can also be good at expressing his views maturely.
