Pakistani dramas are replete with stories that include household abuses, relationship abuses, sexual assaults, and child abuse, etc.
I personally do not prefer to watch all of these stories as I hear about them already as these also circulate in my society. It is also said by these drama makers that they portray our society. These all Pakistani dramas depict reality and sadly these kinds of dramas get more views.
I agree with the fact that yes we should highlight our social problems. However many of these dramas only include sufferings that are basically of women and if something good happens it is just in the last episode. It seems it means a woman can only get happiness at her deathbed and sometimes after death (maybe).
The focus is more on the sufferings of the women that are betrayed, raped, sexually abused, verbally abused, manipulated by in-laws, betrayed by a husband, etc.
It’s high time that the drama maker focuses more on the solution or what should do if some woman is raped. What kind of treatment she should get, what kind of support she should get from her family and how can she survive in society. I know people do not accept easily and talk rubbish.
However, we all know this, by portraying it on television, what good we are getting from these dramas that we already see in our society. what difference it would make.
The dramas create fear in the sense that in-laws are always bad, there is always a second woman who has eyes on the man and makes the couple life hell. There is always an evil mother-in-law and sister-in-law, they make the new bride a maid and make her life hell.
I know this all happens in our society, we are already afraid of marriage and especially in-laws, these kind of dramas are just horrifying.
In my opinion, it is high time that we should focus more on these aspects in Pakistani Dramas:
- If a woman is treated badly by her in-laws, what should she has to do and the solution should be positive, something that would give hope and lesson to people who do bad. (almost every drama but Ghalti can be one example)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3os3ApJjVVU
- If a woman is betrayed by her husband, there should be something shows that her life is not ended and there is a ray of hope for her. She can also survive and move in her life. (every second drama but one example is Bewafa)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STOzyaRtJ9c
- If a woman is a victim of cyber crime like her video or pictures are leaked, what she should do and what the people around her should do. Instead of showing abusive behavior from people and instead of showing that after the incident her life is ended, they should show some thing progressive. (Aisi hai Tanhai)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtfxA8cPN9Y
- If a woman is raped, the drama maker should do something creative and present the drama in the way that she is still a human and she deserves happiness again. (Ruswai) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sElseUQRKbc
These all aspects should be done and it is high time now, however it is also a fact that there is also politics involved in Pakistani drama making. As they have to earn from it so they make that thing that people want to see.
There is a majority of people that watch everything that comes on television and even if they get a chance to watch everything on youtube.
I believe women sufferings is a hot topic as every member of society in real life takes part in it and the same goes for choosing women sufferings oriented Pakistani dramas.
If they will start showing something positive, progressive maybe people will get bored. If we look at the viewership of these kinds of dramas, we will see these have more views than some modern love story. The latest hit dramas are proof of that.
I am not saying that we should hide our social evils and we should show reality. My point is, why the whole Pakistani drama is based on sufferings, and the last episode dedicates to finality in the form of happiness or death.
Many times, justice is served but it is only in the end, even almost every second drama has an abrupt ending. They stretch the story to such an extent that there is no time to give it a better ending.
It is the high time that we start presenting the solutions and make them norm as we are the ones who make the society.
