Rumi is definitely a name that millions of people know about even those who are not interested in Sufism. Many of us are attracted to Sufism/ mysticism, especially the way they have tolerance towards many harsh things of this world.
No doubt mystics, mysticism and Sufism were filled with love, but this love was not ordinary. People who have even lesser knowledge about them, know that this love is for God, the Almighty. There are little things of mystics or Sufis that people criticize, one of them is to discard completely the worldly pleasure. As Allah, Himself told us to balance the world and religion. However, for me, if we see how difficult it is even to leave one of our habits, then we can understand it is not easy.
Where there is always a debate between wrong and right, I say that we need to choose the positive aspect of everything and discard the negative ones.
